Brunette hair can really stand out, and blondes can get a nice pop of dimension with lighter and darker shades of their natural colors being deftly woven into their strands.

We have a special love for the unique teasy light highlighting technique, which involves teasing the hair before applying your highlights, allowing for a more evenly blended color application. 40 Small Apartment Living Room Ideas to Maximize Space and Style

interior design apartment

These clever ideas will spark your creativity when it comes to your apartment. This, of course means great closet organization and underbed storage, but also more unusual ways to incorporate both comfort and storage. Once you book an interior designer, they’ll be there to help you create spaces within your home that you love and feel comfortable in. They’ll meet with you at your home, in an office, or online and help you build the vision you may be lacking. Your apartment may be small, but all it needs is the right studio apartment layout to make most of its petite footprint. Even if your studio is less than 600 square feet, it doesn’t have to feel like a tiny dorm room.

Layered Area Rugs

If the bathroom tile is a shade you can't stand, pick a different color to serve as the primary hue. The tone of green used in this bathroom has a hint of yellow, which helps the accents stand out, and the yellow tile recede. Try a blue-green with powder blue tile or sherbet orange with salmon-color tile. Choose a neutral palette to make the space feel light and airy and accentuate with color or metallics. Decorate with mirrors to help the space feel bigger and brighter, and never underestimate the feel-good power of adding plants. This Chicago apartment living room by interior designer Devin Kirk is a charming example of well-proportioned pairings.

By bouncing natural light across the room, large mirrors cleverly make your space appear larger when you're working with low-light areas. In this living room, Jessica Nelson Design matches the fireplace mirror's finish to the coffee table for an elegant, uniform vibe. Commercial Projects

Repeat the colors on accessories and fabrics for a pulled-together look. White walls aren't just a trend for clean, bright spaces—they're also a designer trick to make a room feel more open. By pairing sleek white paint with natural colors in the furniture, Becca Interiors makes this apartment feel larger without sacrificing the warmth of earthy tones. When it comes to choosing colors, stick to neutral palettes like tan leather, wood, and woven textures while keeping more colorful accents contained in artwork and décor. Even if your rental walls are white and your seating is nondescript, the smallest of apartment decorating ideas can make a big impact.

Third, opt for a sofa with hidden storage to keep your apartment looking clutter-free. If your apartment has an open layout, it’s important to keep that in mind when decorating. You’ll want to choose furniture that can be used in multiple ways and placed in different areas of the room. If you want to make your apartment feel bigger, hang mirrors in strategic places. This will create the illusion of a more spacious room and make the apartment feel brighter.

By taking out the walls in the main living space we created a really lovely seamless interior that flows from one area to the other. ‘We designed Chawton with small spaces and apartment living in mind. It’s an incredibly flexible piece as it’s made up of individual sections that you can combine to make a storage piece as large or as petite as you need. We have gathered decorating ideas from a range of industry professionals so your apartment's design is second-to-none. This year's rankings have introduced an Economic Mobility Index, which measures the economic status change for low-income students.

From accepting moving out of the house you grew up in or to a new state with friends, there are so many unknowns in your journey to feeling at home in your new space. What better way to shake off the nerves than decorating your apartment to feel and look like somewhere you can stay awhile? There are so many stylish apartment decorating ideas to help you make the most of your space. As you wait for the new living room sofa to arrive, plan out the layout of your tiny but mighty home.

A low-slung bed gives your ceilings the appearance of height, so by choosing furniture that's low to the ground, your rooms will automatically feel larger. This floor bed doesn't lose even a hint of style with its textured linens and patterned throw, and the use of a large white area rug feels sleek against the walls. A large pendant lamp exaggerates the ceiling height to complement the bed's low level. The first rule of decorating a small apartment is to treat it with as much respect and care as you would a larger space. Pay special attention to proportion and scale so that big pieces like beds, dining tables, and seating like couches fit your small space without overwhelming it. Decorilla emerged in 2010 when a group of passionate interior designers envisioned a platform to connect clients with top-notch design expertise.

In this office by Mary Patton Design, a monochrome tone cleverly blends seating with painted bookshelves for a burst of personality that still feels uniform. Rather than hiding your best dinnerware behind outdated cabinet doors, strip the hardware down and opt for open shelving on upper cabinets. Open shelves make your space feel larger and give the appearance of additional height. In this kitchen by Casa Watkins Living, natural wood shelves replace upper cabinets for an airy feeling.

'Tall and skinny, floor to ceiling, just a sideboard, even graduated to fit under the slope of a ceiling – the possibilities are endless. Can a tiny footprint work with a magpie’s proclivity for collecting? It can if you’re designer William Cullum and his partner, Jeffrey Rhodes, whose New York studio is a maximalist’s dream. Here, the combined living room and lounge got a coat of “a beautiful frothy lilac,” and the pair piled on antiques and patterns from there. That way, when guests are over, you can simply conceal your “bedroom” by drawing the curtains. In small, dark hallways or those corners of rooms that don't see much natural light, use a full-length floor mirror that spans the wall's height to add visual space.

Apartment bathrooms are often small; to combat limited space, keep it light, airy and clutter free, a simple toning down of the decor can be transformative. When moving into a new home, whether a house, condo, or apartment, there’s a lot of pressure to ensure your interior design is on point. You don't have to have a green thumb to bring beautiful greenery to your space. In apartments that lack those lush, leafy views, bring the outdoors inside by incorporating plants in your interior.

In this clever use of space by House Nine, a nook in the corner of the living room can serve as a family dining table or comfortable office bench. Pendant lights and lush pillows brighten the area while keeping it functional for mixed use. If your space is especially-limited, choose clear furniture that can virtually disappear in the room.

Just be sure to choose tables that have the same visual weight and size. Firstly, zoning is the practice of creating separate areas in a multi-function room with color and decor like rugs. Secondly, you can make an interior seem larger than it is with visual illusions. For instance, a mirror can double the light of an interior while making it look a little bigger than it is.

Incorporate personal touches like photos, artwork, and books to bring out your personality and make your apartment feel like home. Looking for small apartment living room ideas to make the most of your limited square footage? Maximizing a petite room means avoiding oversized furniture that will leave you with zero floor space, while also being careful not to leave your guests without a place to sit, either. With smart storage, consideration for scale, and a little courage, you can pack a lot of style in a small space.

Kerry at RC Willey talks about his desperate need for resolving a drainage problem. He finally decides it was time to put in a dry creek bed. He has added a few photos he is using for some inspiration.

White and Black Dry Creek Bed

Building a dry creek bed is a practical and beautiful solution to a yard with poor drainage. A dry river bed is a trench filled with rocks and is meant to look like a riverbed that has dried up. River rocks are a popular choice for their smooth edges and polished look, which resemble stones that have been weathered by moving water. Multi-colored pebbles add visual interest and can highlight the dry river bed amid your greenery. Don’t let limited space deter you from creating a stunning dry river bed.

Based on the depth, length, and width of the feature you want, consider hiring a drainage expert because the project is not that easy. That greenery assists you create a nature-inspired garden feature. Sometimes, you can even be able to build an artificial water drainage system. Excessive collection of rainwater can affect your plants’ growth adversely. Without effective drainage systems, it probably will begin gathering in the landscape or garden’s corner.

Colorful Rocks Add Sparkle

Flagstone is set on the bank to prevent erosion. Ornamental grasses soften the look of this drain. In terms of design, a dry river bed offers a unique, natural look that can complement a variety of architectural styles. It can be a focal point or a subtle addition to your existing landscape. The use of rocks and gravel can also suppress weeds, reducing the need for chemical herbicides. When envisioning your front yard transformation, start by determining the best location for your dry river bed.

The channel is made obvious with the use of light gray river rocks. The larger rocks are more irregular, but a tiny stream of pebbles flows in the middle. A creek bed looks more realistic when you add a few boulders and large rocks in with smaller rocks. A large irregular brick was dropped in the middle of this dry creek bed as a crossing point between two sections in the garden.

These DIY Dry Riverbed Landscaping Ideas will accentuate your yard, adding an extraordinary appeal to the place!

If you live in a similarly wet climate, a dry creek bed can divert water and protect your landscape from a washout. First of all, plan as well as design the dry river bed. Clear the dry river bed space and fill the trench with stones first. If you find some areas where the water movement is not smooth, improve them. Moreover, the wooden bridge over the dry creek bed breaks up the rock walkway. In this example, the small rocks line the basic dry river bed.

Whether you construct a dry river bed for practical or aesthetic purposes, consider adding more dimensions to yours. Both grasses and plants lend a pure and clean sight to the landscape. Meanwhile, the large rocks and small stones contrast delightfully with them.

This helps prevent pools of water in undesired areas, such as near the house or on a neighbor's property. Create a stunning and cool dry creek river bed by surrounding your home with stones to help filter the water away and add amazing beauty. One important factor to keep in mind when planning your dry river bed is the scale of your garden. A small space may require narrower curves and smaller rocks to maintain proportion, while a larger garden can accommodate more dramatic features. Pay attention to the size of elements to create a visually pleasing and balanced composition.

Turn your dry river bed into a haven for wildlife by choosing native plants that attract birds, butterflies, and other critters. Add small watering holes or birdbaths to provide a source of water. Embrace biodiversity and enjoy the beauty of nature flourishing in your garden.

Here is another of the best DIY Dry Riverbed Landscaping Ideas to set up a cute and creative drainage canal. Moreover, the stones in earthy tones send out an inviting ambiance. Undoubtedly, this idea is not a small project, but completely achievable. However, the large rock boundary evokes a mountainous vibe in a flash.

Ideally, it should follow the natural topography of your land, meandering in curves rather than a straight line, to mimic a natural stream. Consider areas where rainwater typically flows or accumulates, as your dry river bed can double as a functional drainage solution. After you build your dry creek bed, you can dress up its sides with plants.

Original Harry Potter Stories to be Released as Full-Cast Audio Productions

Nobody was, like, trying to screw anybody over. I think that, like, what Bill Godsmith said, he was just like, "You were like the most millennial generation of reality TV we've ever seen," which is, like, kind of spot-on. I believe pop culture can both entertain and affect us, and so reality blurred’s goal is to amplify the best and hold the worst accountable. In other words, let’s call out the worst, celebrate the best, and talk about it all.

Make Over Your Living Space

There will be a rotating panel of celebrity judges featured on the new series who will help determine the fate of the designers. I wasn't pitching myself, but they were approaching me. I’m Andy Dehnart, and I created reality blurred 23 years ago as a blog to collect interesting links I found about reality TV. The contestants will fight each week to prove they are the strongest designer as the huge prize includes $50,000 in cash and their own show on the network. All reality blurred content is independently selected, including links to products or services.

The designers reveal what being on Design Star: Next Gen is really like

That limited what Kim and the production crew was able to do, from changing the floor plan (which is prohibited in Colorado) to organizing the products. The rules and regulations make the business complicated—and that means the actual stores get neglected. It’s really complex, the business, and the last thing on their mind is the retail environment,” she said. Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk are two of the show’s judges for 2021.

Meet Design Star: Next Gen’s cast for 2021 reboot – designers and judges!

And much like you would go to a city and try all those food spots, you can have a more exciting road trip. Your fun doesn't have to stop — from just like maybe you plan some little sightseeing things, but once you turn in for the night, usually you just want, like, a cheap accommodation, and then moving on to the next day — just got to recharge your battery. So I thought it would be fun to just play with the journey of the experience or the experience of the journey. I really, really wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I think it's kind of important to kind of tear yourself down and start over, you know, as a designer and a creative. I mean, I — but everything came back to me really fast.

Her combination of design acumen, empathy, and ebullience make High Design, well, highly entertaining. HGTV Design Star winner Kim Myles had the idea for her new Discovery+ business makeover show High Design, on which she helps some of America’s small businesses, because she’s a customer herself. This season features David Bromstad as the host and mentor. This season features David Bromstad as host and mentor. And of course, there will be some exciting guest judges to help Jonathan and Lauren score the contestants each week. Jasmine Roth, Jonathan Scott, and Tia Mowry, among others, will appear as special celebrity experts.

That was kind of like OMG; this is all the stuff that really happens behind the scenes, because creatives don't get a lot of credit. Also, it's kind of bittersweet, because we would want to share that experience with all the people, because we became so close with all our castmates. So it was a real high and a real low, because we all want to compete against each other, and we all want each other to win, I think, in the end. So it was a big relief and it was just super exciting. Kim recognizes that filming High Design and doing the work isn’t easy. “It’s me bringing in a team of people … that are massively disruptive.

The three remaining designers must transform an 86 sq. Ft. house into a home with a kitchen, bathroom, living area, bedroom, and dining area. The designers get into 6 teams of two and design bedrooms, a great room, and a bonus room. I was just doing a styling project, and I would've never done that. And every view we were just — doing the photos, and that I could not have had that skillset. Now that just little, little tidbit, if it wasn't for this show, that was such a piece that's already translating into my everyday life.

What makes a designer a "true Design Star," exactly? While the network is keeping the challenges top secret, it did share a few details of what we can expect. Competitors will be tasked with a series of tests, such as delivering ingenious solutions for multi-functional rooms, designing for unique "upcycled" home spaces, and (oh yes!) creating a DIY video for Tik Tok. That's one challenge you didn't see in the original series. Each week, the remaining contestants participate in an interior design challenge such as designing a living space with a specific purpose (bedroom, livingroom, garage) or creating a space in an empty room, using unconventional items from a pet store, mechanics store, or a discount store.

One of her major challenges as a designer is that the stores must remain open during the makeover. I cannot close down operations while we are making them over. And the whole point is they are on the edge,” she said. As I told Kim when I interviewed her, I was surprised how much I loved High Design, but only because I’m not a customer. There have been other reality shows in this space, like Netflix’s Cooking on High, but I think the people on screen are having more fun than I am watching them. What Kim is buying is pot, in one of the 19 states that have legalized its recreational use, and she’s now turned her experience into terrific reality TV that also breaks new ground.

Everybody wants us here, we all want to be here. But it’s got to be highly collaborative,” she told me. Ultimately, though, the focus is on the store and making it look better.

Today, it’s home to a wide range of writing about entertainment rooted in real life, from competition reality shows to true-crime documentaries, and a vibrant community of pop culture fans. After the show or after we were done filming, most nights, we'd go out for dinner, especially on like the third night after elimination — just showing how in previous seasons, like Carmeon was saying, people just were not getting along at all, and they were at each other's throats. And for all of us, we were everyone's cheerleader.

So [it'd] be great if you guys could just come along for it. So that's how I pitched my show to the producers. Allison Holker Boss of So You Think You Can Dance fame hosts while design icons Jonathan Adler and Lauren Makk judge competitors on their work. Plus, some familar HGTV faces (does Jasmine Roth or Jonathan Scott ring a bell?) will appear throughout the season to help guest judge the competition's weekly challenges. Reality blurred is your guide to the world of reality TV and unscripted entertainment, with reality show reviews, recommendations, analysis, and news. It was created in 2000 by Andy Dehnart, who's still writing and publishing it today.

Okay, a lot has changed over the last six months, but my husband and best friend had to convince me to do it. "No, you got to go. You're not going to get this opportunity again." To share our perspectives and exchange ideas in a welcoming, supportive space, there are rules for commenting here. By commenting below, you confirm that you’ve read and agree to those rules. On top of that are very specific regulations that vary from state to state, and violations can carry huge fines—thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

Zhang Yimou has made some of the most visually stunning films I've seen ("Raise the Red Lantern") and others of dramatic everyday realism ("To Live"). Here, and with "Hero," he wins for mainland China a share of the martial arts glory long claimed by Hong Kong and its acolytes like Ang Lee and Quentin Tarantino. The film is so good to look at and listen to that, as with some operas, the story is almost beside the point, serving primarily to get us from one spectacular scene to another.
